Work at Home
The age of the Internet has made work at home possible for so many people. The ease that we can communicate with each other via VOIP systems which not only allow us to talk to one another but also exchange data and share information in interactive conference rooms. The rise in the cost of transportation is leading everyone to look at ways to save money, and work at home is one of the answers. It is probably the business of the future that millions of people may seek.
With jobs going overseas all the time as large companies try to cut labor costs, sometimes it is only the local accent that makes one realize that they are not talking to someone locally, but on another continent. When you work at home you can make great savings, such as no transportation is required and you can also use the hours spent commuting for other purposes. All the ways that working at home save money add up, and can sometimes more than offset a drop in pay from a regular salaried job.
The companies are often willing to help. They allow their employees to work at home, providing them with computers which can be hooked into company private networks as if they were sitting in a company office. The Company may go as far as providing a common office area for work at home employees to use on days when they might be required at the office. Large savings can be made by the Company as they can reduce office space and the corresponding financial overhead costs. So both the employee and the employer win, and the environment wins by having fewer autos on the road.
Work at home employees however cannot usually take advantage of tax breaks offered to independent contractors who can claim back part of their housing and utilities costs against their work at home business. If you are offered the chance to work at home you may wish to examine your position as in some cases you might prefer to offer your services as a contractor. Long term employees need to carefully consider the benefits offered a part of their contract, including their pension.
Do you have the determination and discipline to work at home? It is not for everyone, but if you have the drive, you may find that it can work out well. Some mothers with children can successfully work at home, allowing them to work at the same time as raising children. To determine if it is right for you, first examine all the angles and then decide. You just may come across something that works for you, and you will find that it’s good business.
